“A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living.” – Rudolf Steiner
In an increasingly homogenizing world, one group in Davao City bravely took the path to bliss in its own hands and created a community very different from its neighbors.
This is Blissful Family Village, a two-hectare intentional community founded by former nuns and monks of Ananda Marga, dedicated to a life of caring co-habitation, supported by the rhythms of communal meditation, fasting, yoga and exercise.
At Blissful Family Village, everyone is vegetarian, and everyone strives to help each other’s spiritual and social development. Since its founding in 2000, housing loans, lots and free materials for construction have been provided to families. A cooperative tofu business is now thriving, and inside the village stands a Women’s Welfare Center that serves as a retiring home for former Margii missionaries. The community also hosts the Tuburan Institute for free, thereby helping the school share the gift of a holistic and Waldorf-inspired education to the children of Davao.
These are the images of a community that makes blissful living a function of a conscious and collective practice to liberate the self and the world.
